75 Boy Coloring Pages (Free PDF Printables)

Most boy coloring pages show a boy standing still, or a boy with a dinosaur. This set does something plainer and more useful: seventy-five designs of boys doing ordinary things. Reading under a tree. Cooking with a sibling. Brushing a horse. Playing chess with his grandfather. Mixing something in science beakers.

The ages are spread deliberately. Ten toddler designs have the boldest outlines in the set — stacking wooden blocks, rolling dough, banging pots, a xylophone. Nine preschool pages sit just above them. Then a middle group of primary-age scenes, and thirteen teenage designs with a telescope, a piano, a map and a guitar by a campfire.

Coloring Tips

Let him colour himself in. These are ordinary boys doing ordinary things, so a child can use his own skin tone, his own hair, the jumper he actually owns. Most children assume the colours are already decided, and it is worth saying out loud that they are not.

Movement wants a few extra lines. The skateboard trick, the martial arts kick and the soccer page all read as motion, but nothing on the page says so. A few pencil strokes trailing behind a foot or an arm finishes them off.

Clothes are where to be bold. Skin, hair and background want restraint. A jumper, a pair of trainers or a raincoat can take any colour at all, and that is where most of the colouring time will go.

Match the palette to the season. The autumn leaves page wants oranges and browns; the snow pages want pale blues and greys with plenty of paper left bare. Deciding before you start stops a page turning into a rainbow by accident.

Give the animals a real coat. The horse, the dog, the cat and the rabbit all look better as a specific animal than a flat brown one. Ginger with white paws, a tabby’s stripes, a chestnut horse with a darker mane.

Start young children on the toddler pages. The wooden blocks, the xylophone, the toy pots and the dough have the fewest lines in the set. Save the martial arts and the building sketches for someone older.
