40 Elsa Coloring Pages (Free PDF Printables)

Free printable Bluey coloring pages for kids

Half of these Elsa coloring pages are not the Elsa people picture. Twenty of the forty designs are Elsa as a child, before the gown and the ice palace, in a winter coat and a hooded cape with her hair in braids.

The other twenty are the version everyone knows. Seventeen are gowns and portraits: the ice queen, the snowflake dress, the sparkling cape, a tiara and fur gown, several dancing and twirling poses, one sitting on a bench, one in the mountains and one working snow magic. Three put Anna in the frame, in the snow, in the ice cave, and the two of them talking.

Every one of these Elsa coloring pages is free. Each design prints on standard US Letter paper, there is no sign-up, and the Elsa coloring sheets can be printed as many times as you need. Click any design below to open the full-size PDF.

What’s in This Collection

Young Elsa

Twenty designs, the largest group by some way. Walking, waving, running in the snow, throwing a snowball, building a snowman, jumping, twirling, sitting, and several portraits in a fur cape or a winter coat. These are the simplest pages in the set, with heavier outlines and far less detail in the clothing, which makes them the ones to give a younger child.

The gowns

Seventeen designs of the grown Elsa. The snowflake dress, the sparkling cape, the tiara and fur gown, the ice queen, and a run of dancing and twirling poses where the fabric does most of the work. These have the finest line work here. The cape in particular is drawn as a sheet of overlapping shapes rather than one block, and that is what makes it the hardest thing on the page.

Elsa and Anna

Three designs with both sisters: in the snow, inside an ice cave, and the two of them talking. These are worth pointing out to a child who only ever colors Elsa, because the whole story turns on the pair of them rather than on one.

Snow and ice

Several pages put her against snow, a mountain, or her own magic. Snow is the thing most people get wrong, and it is covered in the tips below, but the short version is that a page of snow works best when most of it is left alone.

Coloring Tips

Leave the snow white. Every instinct says to fill it in, and filling it in is what flattens these pages. Snow works as bare paper with a pale blue or light gray used only in the dips and the shadows. The snowman page, the ice cave and the mountain all depend on this more than on anything else you do.

Her dress is three blues, not one. The gown is pale at the top and deeper toward the hem, with the cape lighter than both. Using a single blue across the whole thing loses the shape of it. Press lightly for the cape, a little harder for the bodice, hardest at the bottom of the skirt.

The braid is one rope of repeated shapes. It appears on nearly every page here and it is the one detail that makes her recognizable from a distance. Color each section of the plait slightly lighter on one side and it reads as a braid rather than a yellow stripe.

Use the paper for the sparkle. The sparkling cape, the snowflake dress and the snow magic pages all have small shapes scattered through them. Leaving those unfilled, rather than coloring them in a pale color, is what makes them look like light.

Start younger children on the young Elsa pages. Twenty of the forty designs are drawn with thicker lines and simpler clothing. The gowns, the ice cave and the portraits with the finest line work suit an older child or an adult.
